LE JARDINIER ET SON SEIGNEUR<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Un amateur du jardinage,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Demi-bourgeois, demi-manant,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Poss\u00e9dait en certain Village,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Un jardin assez propre, et le clos attenant.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Il avait de plant vif ferm\u00e9 cette \u00e9tendue :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

L\u00e0 croissait \u00e0 plaisir l’oseille et la laitue ;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

De quoi faire \u00e0 Margot pour sa f\u00eate un bouquet ;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Peu de jasmin d’Espagne, et force serpolet.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cette f\u00e9licit\u00e9 par un Li\u00e8vre troubl\u00e9e,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Fit qu’au Seigneur du Bourg notre homme se plaignit.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Ce maudit animal vient prendre sa goul\u00e9e<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Soir et matin, dit-il, et des pi\u00e8ges se rit :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Les pierres, les b\u00e2tons y perdent leur cr\u00e9dit :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Il est Sorcier, je crois. -Sorcier ? je l’en d\u00e9fie,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Repartit le Seigneur . F\u00fbt-il diable, Miraut,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

En d\u00e9pit de ses tours, l’attrapera bient\u00f4t.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Je vous en d\u00e9ferai, bon homme, sur ma vie.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

– Et quand ? – Et d\u00e8s demain, sans tarder plus longtemps. “<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

La partie ainsi faite, il vient avec ses gens.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“La fille du logis, qu’on vous voie, approchez .<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Quand la marierons-nous ? quand aurons-nous des gendres ?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bon homme, c’est ce coup qu’il faut, vous m’entendez,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Qu’il faut fouiller \u00e0 l’escarcelle. “<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Disant ces mots, il fait connaissance avec elle,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Aupr\u00e8s de lui la fait asseoir,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Prend une main, un bras, l\u00e8ve un coin du mouchoir,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Toutes sottises dont la Belle<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Se d\u00e9fend avec grand respect ;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tant qu’au p\u00e8re \u00e0 la fin cela devient suspect.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cependant on fricasse, on se rue en cuisine.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“De quand sont vos jambons ? ils ont fort bonne mine.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

– Monsieur, ils sont \u00e0 vous. – Vraiment ! dit le Seigneur,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Je les re\u00e7ois, et de bon coeur. “<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Il d\u00e9jeune tr\u00e8s bien ; aussi fait sa famille,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Chiens, chevaux, et valets, tous gens bien endent\u00e9s :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Il commande chez l’h\u00f4te, y prend des libert\u00e9s,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Boit son vin, caresse sa fille.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

L’embarras des chasseurs succ\u00e8de au d\u00e9jeun\u00e9.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Chacun s’anime et se pr\u00e9pare :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Les trompes et les cors font un tel tintamarre<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Que le bon homme est \u00e9tonn\u00e9.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le pis fut que l’on mit en piteux \u00e9quipage<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le pauvre potager ; adieu planches, carreaux :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Adieu chicor\u00e9e et porreaux ;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Adieu de quoi mettre au potage.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le Li\u00e8vre \u00e9tait g\u00eet\u00e9 dessous un ma\u00eetre chou.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

On le qu\u00eate ; on le lance, il s’enfuit par un trou,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Non pas trou, mais trou\u00e9e, horrible et large plaie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Que l’on fit \u00e0 la pauvre haie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Par ordre du Seigneur ; car il e\u00fbt \u00e9t\u00e9 mal<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Qu’on n’e\u00fbt pu du jardin sortir tout \u00e0 cheval.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le bon homme disait : “Ce sont l\u00e0 jeux de Prince.”<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mais on le laissait dire ; et les chiens et les gens<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Firent plus de d\u00e9g\u00e2t en une heure de temps<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Que n’en auraient fait en cent ans<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tous les li\u00e8vres de la Province.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Petits Princes, videz vos d\u00e9bats entre vous :<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

De recourir aux rois vous seriez de grands fous.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Il ne les faut jamais engager dans vos guerres,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ni les faire entrer sur vos terres.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
